Do you have the courage to live life to the full?

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where the answer seems impossible to find?

People often ask me how one can find courage in a situation where the mind is full of fear and doubt. It doesn’t matter where you look, you just can’t see the answer to your problems. For most people this will trigger one of three programmed responses:

  1. Fight
  2. Flight
  3. Freeze

Let’s look at these in turn, and ask yourself what your response is most of the time.

Fight – this response is about facing the fear and diving into it head on. You have a sense that the only way out is to confront and fight.

Flight – this response is about getting yourself out of the immediate danger by running away from the situation.

Freeze – this response literally paralyses you into action. It’s the ‘deer in the headlights’ scenario where, despite the immediate need for action, nothing is actually done.

All of these three responses are ancient programmes developed when we lived  hand to mouth; each day was a matter of survival of the fittest and most able. We no longer face danger in this way, at least in the developed world, yet our programmed response is the same. Most of the time the danger is imagined to be far worse than it actually is and you are actually able to deal with the situation.

We need to replace these programmes with one that is more suitable to life today.

There are 2 ways to do this.
The first is believing and having faith, which is brilliantly demonstrated by this clip from the film Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade:

I love this clip!

The second way is to bring your awareness to what is really going on as opposed to what your mind is telling you. This is where emotional intelligence has been so useful for helping people break away from a conditioned response to an appropriate response.

If you wish to develop the courage to face any situation life throws at you, but need to have something that involves more than just faith in the outcome, come and spend a day with me and I will show you how to find courage anytime you need it, using a proven technique. Here’s the best part of it – once you start using this technique regularly, it only takes seconds to apply and you too can have courage on tap!

You can find out when the next opportunity to do that is here: Emotional Power Live!
